Pioneering Treatment Offers Hope To Terminal Blood Cancer Patients

Adult patients with lymphoma are amongst the first in the world to benefit from a pioneering treatment that genetically reprogrammes their immune system to fight cancer. Doctors at King’s College Hospital in London have confirmed that the CAR T therapy (chimeric antigen receptor T-cell) has been shown in trials to cure some patients, even those with advanced cancers.  Find Out More

The Lions International Blood Research Appeal (LIBRA) is pleased to launch its new ‘Going for Gold’ fundraising campaign with a target of £300,000 to be raised by the end of 2024. Chairman of LIBRA, Andrew Lodge recently celebrated the official opening of a new Ambulatory Transplant Unit at King’s College Hospital which was equipped thanks to match funding from Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF). He was joined by MP Nick Boles who was the very first patient to be treated in the unit, along with Dr Victoria Potter who oversees it. LIBRA heard how the MP had received a bone marrow transplant for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2017 and is now cancer-free.  Find Out More

LIBRA welcomed more than thirty supporters to King’s on 30th May, providing an opportunity to meet with Professors who work tirelessly to tackle blood cancers and blood disorders. LIBRA Trustees held a special evening for supporters at King’s on 5th September 2017. The event provided Lions members from across the South East with the opportunity to meet with Professors and to visit some of the LIBRA supported wards. They also enjoyed a buffet and drinks. Trustee Geoff Jeal organised the event with King’s and he joined LIBRA Chairman Andrew Lodge in welcoming 45 Lions to the hospital.  Find Out More
