Exhilirating Go Kart Race in aid of LIBRA

Battle and Villages Lions Club held their Annual Go Kart Endurance Race on 2nd September 2018, raising £350 for the Lions International Blood Research Appeal (LIBRA). The high energy event took place at the Campbell International Go Kart Circuit at Filching Manor, near Polegate.

The competition was open to teams of four and has been a popular event for many years. 22 drivers were divided into 11 teams of 2, with one brave 16-year-old girl who had no driving experience taking part. After a pre-race briefing a short qualifying race was held to determine pole and grid positions for the start of the one-hour endurance race. Each driver raced for 15 minutes before swapping with a team mate. A good start was followed by an exciting race in the excellent conditions on this demanding international circuit.

The twisting track, with only one straight, tested drivers’ skills and nerve to the full. Despite several spins, minor race impacts and a couple of drivers briefly leaving the track everyone finished. The first podium finishers were “Dumber and Dumber” sponsored by Hailsham Lions Club and it was their 3rd win in a row! 2nd were “Don’t have a Clue” with Richard Davies and Dave Todd, and 3rd were “Wonky Racers” sponsored by Hailsham Lions Club.

Battle and Villages Lions Club commented: “Thanks to The Campbell Circuit and Filching Manor for yet again helping us the support this essential and worthwhile cause. We hope more people will enter this exciting event next year!”
